Kurt, an apprentice in a fish combine, is an ambitious loner. He wants to show what a good sailor he is at a regatta, but fails because of his recklessness and the storm. Disappointed, he seeks affection from the girl Anke, but she loves the apprentice Hannes. During a trip together with Captain Laue, who presents himself as a fatherly friend to Kurt, the boys get into an argument. However, when Laue makes an unscheduled call at Bornholm and Kurt discovers that Laue wants to sell the cutter's catch and equipment and flee, he buries his differences with Hannes. Together and with the help of the old fisherman Jens, the boys rescue the cutter.

Rieke Schmidt is the pastor of the Protestant congregation of Nazareth Church in Munich-Bogenhausen. The unconventional minister is fully absorbed in her job, which is especially hard on her 19-year-old daughter Leonie. She has traveled to Munich from Helsinki during the short semester break to spend some time with her mother, but once again she has her hands full. Especially as she has a new colleague, priest Toni Seidl, whose charm is causing her a lot of turmoil. She also has to take care of the many worries in her parish, especially her best friend Petra Keller, whose daughter Jessica, Rieke's godchild, has leukemia...

Bishop Hemmelrath transfers father Braun to St. Florian, a poor parish in the Saarland's derelict mining region. The local 'Palomas' men choir is linked with the keeping of pigeons, who also deliver quite some love - (to Braun's maid Margot) and other notes. Shortly after, chorister Adolf Zwickel and a local Casanova suspiciously fall to their deaths. Meanwhile the bishop's ambitious deputy, monsignor Mühlich, traced to the parish the pigeon which delivered a ransom note for a huge, precious, obviously stolen church treasure, so he's sent to pay it discretely. Only Braun can make sense of all the confusing sets of pigeon messages.
